Why
would anyone want to find a date, lover or future spouse with an
online dating service?
I
have to admit that at first glance, online dating sites sound
like kind of a nutty idea. Writing
"stuff" about yourself, then posting it along with a picture
of yourself, on the internet for just anyone to see. Who cares if the
internet dating service is free, or sort of.
But, what is
the alternative? You could sit at home, by yourself. Maybe Mom
or Dad would have a suggestion (they really mean
well, you know),
How about going to a place, maybe a bar. a "dating bar".
oh that's fun. If your a girl/woman, you bring along a friend or
two or more.
First, and rightfully so, you don't want to be out alone.
There are just one too many "nut cases" floating around
to feel safe and comfortable. Secondly, if the night is a complete
loss,
you at least have someone to talk to. Now if things go well, you
have that friend to help you critique which guy you want to associate
with.
Now if you are
a guy/man it's a little different. Sitting at home is out of the
question and Mom and Dad usually
know better than
make suggestions. As for "dating bars", you will often
times go alone
or if you have
a buddy along there is
an unwritten
rule that you will probably split up just after arriving. As you
look around...there they are, Chatting away like the only reason
they are there is to "talk amongst themselves". Who knows,
maybe you will get lucky.
Ouch!!, that was painful.
Now, with online
dating, you have the luxury of deciding when to troll, er
search, for the person of your dreams. Turn on your computer
and tune in. You can search around the block or worldwide. Have a
particular preference toward nationality, religion, etc., it's all
there. You can see them, read what they have to say about themselves
and
what they are looking for in you. You can almost customize your dream
person. What used to be considered the last resort for the
matching impaired is now the smart way to go.
Yes, you have
to post your profile, that's only fair, besides most dating services
will require you to fill out a profile before you
can contact anyone else on their dating site. Most services will
not require you to post a picture of yourself, but really, if you
looked
like Britney(girls), with the intellect of Einstein, your chances
of meeting "that someone" are severely diminished unless
you do post a picture. Think about it...do you hit the "only
show profiles with photos" when
you are browsing dating
sites.
In addition to fairness your security is also a consideration. The
picture may look good and
the
profile
read
like you wrote it yourself, but you still need to take care. (We
suggest you read our page on online
dating tips).
